Who may qualify
You may qualify if you bought the probiotic VSL#3 in the U.S. between June 1, 2016 and June 19, 2019. No notice ID is required. The no-receipt route is limited to a single unit per household; claiming more means producing proof of purchase.
What the settlement pays
The administrator pays $20 per unit of VSL#3 — a unit is a bottle or box, and each bottle in a multipack counts. Without proof of purchase you can claim one unit per household, so $20. With proof you can claim the greater of three units or however many units you can document, capped at 40 units or $800. The per-unit amount is adjusted up or down depending on how many claims come in, so $20 is the published rate and the final figure can land above or below it.
What happened
A lawsuit alleged that the companies that licensed, marketed and sold VSL#3 told consumers the formulation sold during the class period had been proven effective in clinical tests for certain medical conditions, and that buyers overpaid as a result. The defendants deny the allegations; they agreed to a $20,000,000 settlement to end the case (Starr et al. v. VSL Pharmaceuticals, Inc., No. 8:19-cv-02173-LKG, D. Md.). The court granted preliminary approval in July 2026 and appointed Angeion Group as administrator.
