Who may qualify
You may qualify if, as of July 31, 2023, you owned or leased — or had previously owned or leased — a 2011–2019 Corolla, 2011–2013 Corolla Matrix, 2012–2018 Avalon, 2013–2018 Avalon HV, 2012–2019 Tacoma, 2012–2017 Tundra or 2012–2017 Sequoia. That July 31, 2023 snapshot is the gate: buying a covered vehicle after that date does not put you in the class. Kroll, the court-approved administrator, states you do not need a Class Member ID to file — the claim form offers a route for people who never received a notice.
What the settlement pays
Owners of recalled vehicles may claim reimbursement of out-of-pocket costs tied to the recall — rental cars, towing, childcare, ACU repair costs and lost wages. All class members may also receive a residual distribution payment of up to $250 once out-of-pocket claims are satisfied, plus a 12-year warranty on parts installed during the recall that transfers to later owners.
What happened
A lawsuit alleged that certain Toyota vehicles equipped with ZF-TRW airbag control units could be affected by a defect. Toyota agreed to a $78.5 million settlement to resolve the claims with no admission of wrongdoing (In re ZF-TRW Airbag Control Units, No. 2:19-ml-02905, C.D. Cal.). The court granted final approval in November 2023 and the last appeal was dismissed in December 2025, so the settlement is now being implemented.
How to file
You can file with the settlement administrator yourself, and it is free. The official settlement site is here.
Most people who may qualify for one settlement may qualify for others they have never heard of. Cashout checks the open settlements against a few questions, keeps the official filing page and the requirements for each match in one place, and reminds you before a deadline.
Cashout is not a law firm and is not the settlement administrator. Final eligibility and payment amounts are determined by the settlement administrator, not by Cashout. Amounts shown are what the administrator or the settlement documents have published; they are not a promise of payment. Filing directly with the official administrator is always free.
Checking which settlements may apply to you is free. Cashout membership is optional and is a subscription: a 3-day trial for $0 or $1.00 today, then $19.99 every month, renewing automatically until you cancel. Which of these applies to you, and the exact date of the first charge, are shown at checkout before you enter a card. You can cancel anytime from your dashboard.
